Encontrei na Bolognalingua uma escola diferente do habitual: não tinha salas de aula, mas salas de conversa e trocas mútuas de aprendizagens; não encontrei professores, mas amigos. Anna Maria não foi para mim uma professora, foi uma amiga com quem conversei sobre tantos assuntos e com quem aprendi muito, nomeadamente italiano.

After researching schools in Italy to study Italian, I chose Bolognalingua to take lessons for three hours a day for five days on a one-to-one basis. Why? Because I saw Andrea Quarantotto's photograph on the website and it was noted that the lessons were conducted in his home. Those two things appealed to me. After all, I am senior who began to study Italian in my late life. Andrea appeared to be in my age group, and my instincts told me that perhaps he would not only bring to the table his expertise in teaching but also patience and understanding for someone who began to study Italian as a senior citizen. This has included classes once a weekly at a local community college, weekly lessons with an Italian native in the community and study for one week in Spoleto, Italy. Yet, I had difficulty in applying my knowledge in speaking. My goal for the week was to be able to communicate well with two friends in Umbria. Andrea understood my goal and provided exercises that wouldprovide practical application of grammar and he shared Italian words and phrases that would help me communicate well. Three hour intensive lessons for five days, lunches with Andrea and his charming wife Daniela, cultural trips to Dozza and Ferrara, and hearing a lot of Itailian proved to be very worthwhile in the achievement of my goal. For example, on the train to Umbria from Bologna, I got an opportunity to test my confidence in speaking the language. I was able to make small talk in Italian with Cinzia and Matteo, two Italians who who sat across from me. I had wonderful visit with my friends in Foligno and Spoleto and I shared with them funny stories about my adventures in Scotland and overnight stay in Paris. Moreover, I had no problems in speaking with employees at train stations, taxi drivers, hotel and restaurant staff. I am by no means fluent in the language but consider my week of one-to-one study very effective. I plan to repeat this rewarding experience with Andrea in October 2014. Grazie mille, Andrea.

Per me il nome di 'Bolognalingua' cambia in 'Andrealingua'.
La lingua del professore Andrea Quarantotto -un vero bolognese- parla pure tante lingue.
Per esempio l'inglese: Andrea è in grado di spiegare facilmente un problema grazie alla sua conoscenza di questa lingua, ma anche del francese.
Andrea parla anche la lingua degli studenti, cioè lui capisce le loro intenzioni e...i loro errori.
Si adatta anche con una grande flessibilità agli interessi ed alle capacità degli alunni: ogni argomento di conversazione è benaccetto.
Quindi si forma un'atmosfera simpatica e perciò un corso presso Andrea diventa un invito ad un nuovo incontro a Bologna.

Wir haben unsere Zeit (6 Wochen) bei bolognalingua sehr genossen. Bei Andrea und seiner Frau Daniela fühlten wir uns immer wie zu Hause. Wir wurden jeden Morgen mit einem Caffe' begrüßt und bestens auf italienisch unterhalten, bevor unser Unterricht bei Anna oder Andrea begann. Auf den sehr individuell zugeschnittenen und immer kurzweiligen Unterricht freuten wir uns jeden Tag. Der Unterricht war eine optimale Mischung aus Sprechen, Hörverständnis und Grammatik, und wir erhielten ganz neue Einblicke in die italienische Literatur. So haben wir unser Sprachniveau deutlich anheben können.
Bologna ist eine wunderbare Stadt zum Italienischlernen - lebendig und interessant, und abends kann man beim Apericena (Aperitivo plus delikate Häppchen) in einer anderen Bar entspannen. In unseren von Andrea organisierten Apartments fühlten wir uns sehr wohl, und mit den in Bologna erworbenen (gebrauchten) Fahrrädern kamen wir auf den ausgezeichneten Radwegen der Stadt bestens überall hin. Una citta' molto ciclabile.
Auf einem Stadtrundgang durch Bologna mit Andrea haben wir viel über die Geschichte der Stadt erfahren. Weitere sehr schöne Ausflüge mit Andrea oder Anna führten uns nach Dozza, Ferrara und in eine Parmesan-Manufaktur. Ganz ausgezeichnet waren auch die Mittagessen im Hause Quarantotto - von Daniela selbst gekocht und mit vielen lustigen Gesprächen, natürlich immer auf italienisch, bei einem Glas Vino Rosso oder Vino Bianco.
Mille, mille grazie an Andrea, Daniela und Anna! Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder!

Im Juli 2012 habe ich zwei Wochen Italienischunterricht bei Andrea in Bologna gebucht und bin von seiner kompetenten, sympathischen Persönlichkeit und der abwechslungsreichen Unterrichtsmethode begeistert.
Andrea hat ein individuelles Programm aus Grammatik-, Hörverständnisübungen und Konversation für mich zusammengestellt. Es war für mich durchaus von Vorteil, dass wir nicht Deutsch und nur ausnahmsweise Englisch sprechen konnten. Die gemeinsamen Ausflüge und Restaurantbesuche bzw. das Kochen haben mir besonders gut gefallen, da man durch diese Aktivitäten Einblicke erhält, die sich dem Touristen meistens nicht bieten. Andreas Unterricht und den Service von Bolognalingua möchte
ich daher ohne Einschränkung empfehlen.

In luglio 2012 mi sono iscritta ad un corso di italiano di due settimane a casa di Andrea a Bologna e sono stata subito colpita dalla sua personalitá competente e simpatica e del suo metodo di fare lezione. Andrea ha fatto un programma individuale con la grammatica, conversazione e lezione della comprensione. Era un vantaggio per me che non abbiamo parlato Tedesco e Inglese solo raramente. Mi sono piaciute soprattutto le escursioni, le visite di restauranti e che abbiamo fatto qc di mangiare insieme, perchè da queste attivita si riceve l ´ímpressione che normalmente non si riceve quando si è turisti. Vorrei raccomandare le lezioni di Andrea e il servizio di Bolognalingua senza esitazione.
Vor ca. 3 Jahren habe ich beschlossen, in meiner Pension Italienisch zu lernen. Vergangenen Herbst fühlte ich mich schließlich als leicht Fortgeschrittener und wollte mir einmal einen individuellen Kurs leisten. Unter diesen Prämissen googelnd stieß ich bald auf die Schule von Andrea Quarantotto. Nach 14 Tagen bei Andrea wußte ich, daß ich einen Volltreffer gelandet hatte.
Andrea ist ein umfassend gebildeter, freundlicher Lehrer mit einer guten Portion Selbstironie.
Er macht es möglich, sich auch mit eingeschränkten Italienischkenntnissen mit ihm über Gott und die Welt zu unterhalten. Man lernt bei ihm nicht Schulitalienisch, sonder Alltgsitalienisch und die Grammatik bekommt man exakt, aber gleichsam nebenbei beigebracht. Das ganze in einem Rahmen, wie er an der Universität in Bologna schon vor 900 Jahren üblich war: In der Wohnung des Professors, am besten als einziger Schüler. Ob es damals auch schon Brauch war daß man, wie heute bei Daniela und Andrea Quarantotto, von der lieben Frau des Professors und von ihm selbst zubereitete köstliche italienische Hausmannskost serviert bekommt, weiß ich nicht. Nach dem dazugehörigen mittäglichen Viertel Wein ging mir jedenfalls auf den ausgedehnten Exukursionen mit Andrea, ob mit der Bahn, dem Auto oder zu Fuß, das Italienische noch leichter von der Zunge. Um auch den ökonomischen Gesichtspunkt zu erwähnen: Das Verhältnis Preis zu Leistung könnte nicht besser sein. Diese beiden wertvollen Wochen in Bologna möchte ich jedenfalls nicht missen und ich empfehle daher Andreas Schule wirklich dankbar und mit Überzeugung weiter.
Circa tre anni fa ho deciso nel tempo della mia pensione studiare l’italiano. L’autunno scorso mi sentivo come un medio anvanzato e volevo concedermi per una volta un corso individuale. Cercando sul Googel con questa premessa dopo poco ho riscontrato la Scuola Bolognalingua di Andrea Quarantotto. Dopo due settimane da Andrea sapevo che avevo fatto centro.
Andrea è un insegnante molto amichevole di cultura enciclopedica con una bella dose di autoironia. Rende possibile, anche con conoscenza del italiano solo limitata, fare conversazione con lui di tutto e di più. Da lui anziché l’italiano della scuola si impara l’italiano di ogni giorno.La grammatica la insegna in modo esatto ma quasi a tempo perso. Tutto quello in un quadro come già era usato all’universitá di Bologna novecento anni fa: Nell’ alloggio del professore, al meglio come studente unico. Se giá allora era di rito che, come adesso da Daniela e Andrea Quarnatotto, si trovava il cibo casalingo sguisito preparato e servito dalla cara moglie del professore insieme con lui, come succede adesso dalla famiglia Quarantotto, non lo so. Tuttavia, dopo il quarto immancabile di vino, durante le escursioni estesi sia in treno, sia con la macchina di Andrea sia a piedi, parlare italiano sembrava sempre un po’ meno difficile.
Per non dimenticare il punto di vista economico: Il rapporto prezzo/prestazione non potrebbe essere meglio.
Comunque, non vorrei fare a meno di queste due settimane a Bologna e perciò la scuola di Andrea raccomando davvero grato e con convinzione.

My Experience at Bolognalingua in December 2012
I am a 57 year old Scottish woman with a love of learning foreign languages although, unfortunately for me, I am not a ‘natural’ linguist.
I need to work hard at my languages and have been studying Italian on and off over the past 5 years. Due to my job and the travelling involved, I have had to do self-study or distance learning courses. I have also studied for periods of one or two weeks in group classes at other schools in several Italian cities (Torino, Verona and Bologna). However, my learning experience with Andrea and Anna at Bolognalingua this year was the most useful and enjoyable ever.
When I read the information on the Bolognalingua website I was intrigued as the method of learning is quite different from group classes. Andrea’s approach really appealed to me as my biggest difficulty with Italian is speaking. I think that part of this is my lack of confidence in speaking Italian - it always seems easier to use books and written exercises.
The thought of one-to-one classes worried me a little, as there is nowhere to ‘hide’. But the warm welcome from Andrea, his wife Daniela, and Anna immediately made me feel at ease.
With two or three hours of one-to-one classes, I found that the content of the sessions could be tailored to my interests, which aren’t the usual ‘group class’ topics of shopping, literature and the arts! My interests are more in travel, sport and cooking, so it was great to be able to use these topics in my classes. I could also choose to practise my speaking most of the time with essential grammar thrown in. But the lessons were not ‘grammar’ lessons as I know that I can study this myself. It’s the practical application of the grammar in the spoken word that I want. And that’s exactly what I got.
I came away from my two weeks feeling much more confident speaking Italian and with a greater understanding of how grammar works in practice.
Winter is typically a quiet time for Bolognalingua so Andrea could be extremely flexible. I went to his house sometimes and he also came to my apartment. He was also very flexible with the times and days of my classes to suit the weather as I wanted to explore Ferrara, Parma and other nearby towns by train - and I could choose the sunniest days to do this!
All in all, the best language school experience I have had – I will return!

I have been studying Italian for over a year but with little exposure to conversational skills. As I plan to spend part of my retirement in Italy, I decided to take a course in Bologna to explore that region and assess how well I could converse. I decided to take the "l'italiano passeggiando" course to get a taste for the region and a test of my abilities. I was apprehensive about conversing for 5 days in Italian but these fears were quickly dispelled upon meeting Andrea. He quickly put me at ease and I found that I could follow a good deal of the conversation. My hesitation in speaking the language was in worrying about proper grammar and pronunciation. Andrea said not to focus as much on them as on my thoughts and how to communicate them. He said the rest will come as I speak more. This was exactly what I needed to feel confident about speaking and allowed me to just start using this beautiful language. We had wonderful conversations on the train, in cafes and just enjoying our morning cappuccino. He provided great feedback during these times to help me improve. I also had the pleasure of Andrea explaining to me about the wonderful places we visited. Andrea is a warm, patient person with a wonderful sense of humor and we shared more than a few laughs during the week. Andrea was also able to assess my skills accurately and advise how to best hone them upon my return. My only regret is that I took just a one week course and I plan to return in the future to Bolognalingua to advance my skills. It was the highlight of my trip to Italy and a great confidence builder. La estancia en la vivienda de la anfitriona fue muy buena también. Muy cerca del centro de Bolonia. Me sentí cómo en casa. Hay muy buen servicio de transporte público.Los autobuses son muy regulares.

I have had intensive lessons of Italian language and culture in Bolognalingua for three months during my stay in Italy as a bursary of my employer.
I was interested not only in speaking and understanding the colloquial language but also in juridical and administrative vocabulary, because I am a professional interpreter.
I feel that all these needs were satisfied. I appreciated Andrea's profound knowledge of Italian reality and politics and his perfectionism in teaching correct Italian.
He is the ideal combination of a linguist and a commentator of everyday topics, with mature and interesting ideas. He also understands other European languages, which offers him insight into students' mistakes and "false friends" due to interferences from their linguistic background.
I also appreciated the warm reception in his family and his discretion. Last but not least Andrea also helped me out with finding short time accommodation in Bologna which is not always an easy task.

Ho conosciuto Andrea Quarantotto, quando ho avuto dei corsi di lingua e cultura italiana per i tre mesi del mio soggiorno in Italia. Siccome sono interprete - avevo una borsa del mio datore di lavoro- volevo non solo parlare e capire la lingua quotidiana, ma anche il vocabolario giuridico e amministrativo. Considero che entrambe necessità sono state soddisfatte. Ho molto apprezzato il conoscimento profondo della realtà e della politica italiana del mio professore e il suo perfezionismo nel insegno del italiano coretto. E la combinazione ideale di linguista e commentatore di assunti sociali con idee chiare, mature e interessanti. Aggiungo che capisce altre lingue romane fatto che gli permette anticipare gli sbagli degli studenti stranieri, dovuti alle interferenze del loro background linguistico.
Ho apprezzato molto l'accoglimento cordiale in una famiglia italiana e la loro discrezione e amabilità. Andrea mi ha aiutato a trovare alloggio per un corto soggiorno a Bologna, cosa che non è mica facile.

La primavera passata, cioè 2007, ho studiato italiano per un anno e mezzo. Ho già frequentato due corsi settimanali in Italia, uno a Roma e l'altro all'isola d'Elba. Cercavo qualcos'altro, un corso individuale dove era possibile anche a partecipare nella vita quotidiana. Ho trovato la Bolognalingua su Internet e ho avuto un presentimento che questa "scuola" sarebbe perfetta per me. Il mio presentimento si è dimostrato essere giusto. La settimana a casa di Andrea all'inizio di aprile era molto piacevole e anche un'immersione totale nella vita italiana. Stavo in un Bed & Breakfest solo due passi dalla casa di Andrea. La mattina prendevamo di solito un caffè insieme alla famiglia, chiacchierando del più e del meno, poi avevo una lezione di tre ore con Paula, una insegnante colta e amichevole. Poco dopo mezzogiorno pranzavamo insieme alla famiglia, insegnanti e studenti. Mi è piaciuto l'atteggiamento della famiglia, così allegro e informale. Dopo il pranzo Andrea ed io facevamo una gita in macchina a qualche paese o luogo interessante. Ricordo sopratutto Brisighella e Dozza, tutti e due luogi così belli e rilassanti. Ritornavamo a casa normalmente verso le cinque. Vorrei raccomandare la Bolognalingua a tutti quelli che sono interessati non solo alla lingua italiana ma anche alla vita quotidiana.
